I am a Math education major, so I do not really use citation; however, if I do it will most likely be in APA style.
When I hear 'citation' I think about giving credit to the people who originally came up with the idea/concept. Giving credit to those who deserve it, I believe, is necessary and if you do not then its plagiarism. Even coping someone's homework is a form of plagiarism because the person coping is not doing the work. However, I do not feel like people should get in trouble if they accidentally plagiarism.
Oooh, Erin I think it's interesting to bring up Plagiarism and homework! I don't believe most of us would label copying homework as plagiarism, but as you argue it can be just that.
ReplyDeleteI also find it interesting with two other statements from you. One, you say that those who plagiarize should not be punished if it is accidental, and two you state that you don't think your major will require citation as often. I think those are two great areas of analysis we should bring up in class. Good post!
